 What Is Basic

Having some form of health insurance is crucial in today's world with cancer, heart disease, AIDS, diabetes, asthma, and other illnesses and maladies.

Health insurance coverage comes in a variety of levels, but as with most things in life, you get what you pay for, and good coverage may be extremely expensive.

The two most often used phrases when discussing health insurance are premium, which refers to the cost of the policy, and deductible, which describes your out-of-pocket costs before the insurance covers your medical expenses.

For instance, if your family coverage is $300 a month in premiums and your personal deductible is $250, you would be responsible for the first $250 of the bill if you fractured your ankle by falling and went to the emergency room.

Very basic catastrophic coverage is available, with a lower premium and higher deductible than comprehensive coverage, which has a higher premium and lower deductible.

It pays to take the time to research different insurance alternatives while keeping in mind your age, general health, and the health of your family.

The least expensive choice for you may be group health insurance provided by your company; typically, the premium is taken from your wages.

Health insurance requires taking a calculated risk; can you afford the premiums or are you prepared to take the chance that you would spend less out of pocket for medical bills in a year than the premiums would cost? Do your research.
